I believe fashion should inspire. It should inspire conversation, wonder, excitement, and the desire for more.  I am not drawn to cookie cutter or expected styles, so it will be no surprise why I adore the designer I am going to introduce you too. I met Candy Jaxon of Ruckus Mob Couture via twitter and feel instantly in love with her corsets.  It doesn’t hurt that she is totally cool and loves glitter as much as I do.  I just knew I had to spotlight her and her amazing line!  So prepare yourself to be inspired….

Tell me about who you are and your wonderful line..

Candy Jaxon- Owner and Designer of Rukus Mob Couture-

My name is Candy Jaxon and I am the owner and designer of Rukus Mob Couture, founded in 2008. I studied Theater Arts with emphasis in Costume Design at The University of Arizona and then moved to Los Angeles to pursue Fashion Design at The Art Institute.  I received my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Fashion Design in 2007. I then moved back to Tucson, AZ, where I am originally from to began my own clothing company, now Rukus Mob Couture.  In my last year of college, I studied Couture and fell in love with corsets, which is what Rukus Mob Couture is most known for.  Rukus Mob Couture designs and hand makes all garments.  My line allows the customer to create their own “look” and in the end will have an item that is truly one of a kind.  I also like to include unconventional materials in my designs.  The reason I love to use unconventional materials and combine them with fun fabrics such as satins, tulle’s, fun printed cotton, nets and vinyl.  I want my customers to experience the whole design process and have an item that stands out from the crowd.  Around every corner, you can find the “traditional” corset but I don’t want my customers to blend in because that is not what Rukus Mob Couture is about.

What is your inspiration behind your designs?

My inspiration behind all my designs are music- mainly Rock N Roll, travel-places such as Los Angeles and Jersey, time eras- like Baroque/Rocco, Medieval, 70s and 80s glam.  Childhood favorites such as My Little Pony and Barbie.  Glamorous and timeless beauties like Pamela Anderson and Bridget Bardot.  I love to bake cupcakes too, so baking them inspires me.  Anything that sparkles, glitters, shines. Industrial and metal raw pieces inspire me as well.  Out of all these inspirations, Los Angeles, Rock N Roll music and Barbie are my biggest inspirations.

Describe a Rukus Mob Couture girl

The kind of girl I’m inspired to design for is a girl who is strong, independent, beautiful, loyal, confident and most importantly, has pride.  The Rukus Mob Couture girl could be described as Barbie meets Steven Tyler.  She’s that girl who is super girly and sexy like Pamela Anderson or Bridget Bardot but can hold her own and drink a beer while still being glamorous.  Also, the Rukus Mob Couture girl can feel beautiful and confident in anything, no matter her shape or size.

Who are your favorite Designers?

My Favorite Designers are Betsey Johnson, Alexander McQueen (Rest In Peace) and John Galliano.  I love these three designers because they stay true to who they are, no matter what the “trends” are at the time.  Betsey Johnson has such an amazing personality and just does her own thing and I like that.  Her bold, playful and fun prints and colors inspire me everyday. She shows you that fashion is fun and to always have fun with it.  Alexander McQueen is a pure genius.  His use of materials and unconventional items such as feathers and flowers, which are two of my favorite items incorporated into his designs. His designs are so beautiful but his concepts behind these designs are even more amazing.  He focuses on topics and themes that push the limits and are out of the box.  It keeps people interested, talking, and leaves you wanting more.  There is a lot more to his designs then just a garment.  John Galliano’s designs are so fun but at the same time still super classy.  His runway shows are amazing and remind me of a theater production.

What is next for Rukus Mob Couture?

Rukus Mob Couture has a lot of its’ sleeve this year!  I will be expanding my line with custom shorts, dresses, bra tops, pasties, tanks, tee’s, accessories, jewelry and of course more tutus.  I currently have my clothing line at the Missconstrued Boutique, located downtown Phoenix and plan on expanding my items at the boutique.  I would love to open my own boutique with a bakery attached, so I can sell my custom designs along with my custom cupcakes and cake pops!  I also started my own group of models called the Rukus Barbies and you will be seeing a lot of them this year rock my new designs!  The collection I’m currently working on is called “LA Classy Trash”. I hope to land some more publications, calendars and be involved in more fashion shows.

Favorite quote or motto that best describes you and your line.

The motto or quote that best represents Rukus Mob Couture is “No Pity.No Remorse. No Regrets”. That explains Rukus Mob Couture and what my line is in just a few key words.  I want my customer to live by that motto/quote and be confident and comfortable in their own skin and to not focus on what anyone else things or says and to never have to explain to anyone who you are!
